ACCUTANE is very useful in treating severe acne in patients who do not respond to other medicines, and it works by decreasing oil production in the skin, oil, preventing unusual hardening of the skin, and changing the characteristics of the skin.

Usage

Following the dosage instructions of your doctor is the safest way to use any medication. If you are doubtful or do not remember the methods then you may read the medicine label for more accurate information.

You may choose to take ACCUTANE with a meal to avoid an upset stomach or without one.

Drink one full glass of water or any nonalcoholic liquid with ACCUTANE.

You have to complete the dosage schedule and cannot be interrupted in between without seeking prior consultation from your doctor.

Taking your medication at the same time each day is a tried and tested method to avoid missing any doses.

Drug Class and Mechanism

ACCUTANE comes under retinoid, and it works by changing the characteristics of the skin oil, reducing skin oil production, and preventing abnormal hardening of the skin.

Missed Dose

Despite your best attempts at remembering, if you still miss out on a dose, then take it as soon as you remember about it. But keep in mind that you will have to adjust your next dose by spacing it out by 4 to 5 hours. If this is not possible, then the best thing to do would be to skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosage schedule.

It is highly discouraged to compensate for the missed dose by taking a double dose together. It will have adverse effects.

Storage

Store ACCUTANE at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F(15 and 30 degrees C)

Make sure to keep it in a cool dark place that has no direct revelation to sources of heat or moisture and sunlight

Kids and pets should be away from the medicine

Warning/Precautions

Explain your past/current medical history in detail with your doctor before initiating treatment with new medication. If you are using any herbal supplements or over the counter medication, then introduce it to your doctor.

ACCUTANE increases the chance of getting dizziness or drowsiness. This risk increases if you merge it with alcoholic beverages, so avoid them when using ACCUTANE. Moreover, avoid tackling any tasks which require mental vigilance (driving, handling heavy machinery, etc.)

Are you expecting a child or is planning to have a child soon? Then consult your doctor before using ACCUTANE to address any possible perils to the unborn baby. You should also take advice from the doctor if, you breastfeed your baby or is a nursing mother as it has the chance to enter the baby's body through the milk.

If you are a nursing mother and, then too, seek consultation before using ACCUTANE as some drugs are excreted in the breast milk and may enter the baby.
